TLDCON 2013: IDN-domains need a full email

TLDCON 2013 conference went on working with the section “Business-models: cyrillic top-level domains (IDN TLDs)” which was held by Irina Danelia (Coordination Center for TLD RU). The section attracted participants representing registries of already existing IDN-domains and those who had just applied. The main topics of the section were IDN-domains email launch and perspectives of new top-level domains development.

Nicoleta Munteanu (ICANN) gave a detailed report on ICANN works on further IDN-domains (with the full number of 38 in the world) development to TLDCON 2013 participants . She spoke about the process improvement of new suggested domain names with already existing ones compatibility checks, which caused many admonitions previous years (you can read about the process in more detail in the section Domain Industry News). Also she called for national experts and linguists to actively take part in scripts for different national alphabets (including cyrillic and Greece) development.

Dusan Stojicevic (RNIDS) and Aleksandr Panov (RU-Center) in their speeches made a special accent on full email realization absence in cyrillic domains problems. According to Serbian registry, it is the lack of email that prevents cyrillic Serbian domain .СРБ from development. Aleksandr Panov attracted attention of the conference participants to the existing countermeasures of software producers and email services towards emain implementation in IDN-domains. Andrey Khvetkevich (NIC.UA) spoke in details about national domains development free model based on the example of PP.UA domain.

Fedor Smirnov (Webnames.ru, domain .РУС ) and Tatiana Ivanova (CORE, domains.САЙТ (“site”) and .ОНЛАЙН (“online”)) spoke about upcoming top-level domains. All these domains are  oriented on Russian-speaking (and Slavo-speaking) audience (e.g. domains .САЙТ and .ОНЛАЙН are meant mostly for Russia, Belorussia and Bulgaria where words «онлайн» and «сайт» are written in the same way). New cyrillic domains, according to the speakers, will unite the services  suppliers and users and will open new marketing and advertising possibilities both for registrars and for Internet-business.

Paul Cane (CommunityDNS), Leader of section “Business-models: new top-level domains (new gTLD) perspectives in comparison to ccTLDs”  named as main themes of the meeting the new top-level domains market development perspectives and all Internet community participation on discussing those rules according to which Internet-space will continue developing in future. He underlined that the most important in ICANN new gTLD program is creation of Internet for everyone, when each person can find in Internet anything interesting and useful personally for him. This theme was continued by Maxim Alzoba (FAITID), Ulrich Reclaff (.ORG), Geremy Godresh (Freedom Registry BV)6 Andrey Vorobiev (RU-CENTER), Alexey Ptashny (Ukraine Network Information Center) and Sergey Sharikov (ISOC Russian Department).
